Born to Edward Hogin Hooper and Frances Jacobs Hooper, Helen Ann spent her childhood in Cookeville, TN where she attended Cookeville High School and then earned a degree in education at Tennessee Technological University. She married Harry Hobgood Ward of Nashville, TN, whom she met on a college trip to Europe, in 1968. The couple settled in Brentwood, TN just outside of Nashville.
Helen Ann began her career in Nashville as an English teacher at Hillwood High School before starting a family. She would eventually become a Realtor with Fridrich and Clark, LLC in Brentwood where she loved helping young couples find their first home.
Never at a loss for words or a good conversation, Helen Ann loved socializing with her friends as well as her son’s friends. Some of her favorite past times were skiing Center Hill lake as teenager, leading her sons’ Cub Scout Packs and helping with summer swim meets at Sequoia Swim Club. In particular, Helen Ann had a special place in her heart for the Rochelle Center, a home for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities where she served on the board. She was also involved with numerous other charities.
Above all Helen Ann enjoyed her sons’ athletic endeavors through their childhood and high school years and was involved with the schools’ booster clubs and fund raisers. In addition, she enjoyed trips to the beach in Destin as well as many trips abroad with Harry including several Olympics.
Helen Ann is survived by her two sons Harry H. Ward Jr. (Chip and Samantha) and Andrew Hooper Ward (Andy) both of Nashville and her sister Harriet Sue Hall (Phil) of Cookeville, TN. She was preceded in death by her husband Harry H. Ward of Nashville, TN.
