“Gil” Fuqua, Sr. passed away on September 16, 2014 at the age of 93. He was preceded in death by sons, Timothy and Donald, and is survived by wife Marie T. Fuqua; sons Gil Jr. (Karen) and Cayce; grandchildren Patten, Sarah, Will, and James Fuqua. Born in McEwen, TN, Gil was the son of James Cayce Fuqua and Bertha Robertson Fuqua. A graduate of Martin College in Pulaski, TN, and Kingspoint Academy in Kings Point, NY, he served in the Merchant Marine during World War II. After the war, he continued his career as a Ship Captain for Cities Service Oil Co. He then returned to Nashville and joined Jim Reed Chevrolet Co., retiring as General Manager. He later became a partner in Campbell Chevrolet in Bowling Green, KY. After retirement, he enjoyed golfing at Richland Country Club, gardening, and several volunteer interests. He was a member of West End Methodist Church. He and Marie were regular volunteers with the V.A. Hospital for many years. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, September 19, 2014 at West End Methodist Church. The family will receive friends prior to the service, from 12 til 2, in Reed Hall at the Church. Private burial. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be to West End Methodist Church or to a charity of your choice.
