Jeri Hardin Carver, 77, of Nashville, died suddenly in Janesville, WI. She was visiting, for a joyous celebration, with her sister, nieces and nephews. Jeri was the 4th daughter of 5 girls. She kept close ties with her large family and cherished them all. She still met up with grade school classmates from Holy Name School; and always made efforts to visit the bereaved of those friends when they passed on.
Jeri often expressed her gratitude for the Dominican Sisters who taught her. On June 4, Jeri was honored at a luncheon at St Cecilia Academy, as the 2016 Outstanding Alumna of the Year. When Jeri graduated from St. Cecilia in 1956, she went to work at South Central Bell. She was manager of the Directory Department when she retired at age 55. She made lifelong friends there and in typical fashion kept up through letters, lunches out, driving several to appointments and even drafting a few friends to join in her own community volunteer efforts.
Since her retirement, Jeri has volunteered for Vanderbilt Health at 100 Oaks, Telephone Pioneers, Monroe Harding Children’s Home, Tennessee State Museum, Red Cross and Diabetes Association. Jeri was a warm-hearted loving mother to an only child, and once was “volunteered" by her daughter to be her Girl Scout troop leader; of which Jeri loved doing for 5 years. She shared her joy and laughter with all she knew and met; and could strike up friendships with unsuspecting strangers. Her most cherished moments were those spent doting on her 3 grandsons.
Jeri is preceded in death by her parents William and Florence Alessio, sisters Rae Rita Carver and Mary Lynn Alessio, husband Charles H Hardin, III and husband William J Carver. Survivors include her daughter Dorothy Hardin Mercy (Mark), grandsons Charles Mercy (Maura), Matt Mercy, Daniel Mercy and her sisters Zoe Busse of Janesville, WI and Iris Brown of Shalimar, FL. and many cousins, nieces, nephews, in-laws and step-grandkids. Visitation is set for Sunday from 4-8 pm at Marshall-Donnelly-Combs. Funeral at Christ the King Catholic Church on Monday 10:00 am, with burial at Spring Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Dominican Sisters of St Cecilia 615-251-0053.
