He is survived by another son, Timothy Riordan McCarthy, and two daughters, Terri McCarthy Meyer (Steve) and Suzanne McCarthy Hodges (Jim). He leaves five grandchildren: Megan Meyer Stovall (Cody), Molly Meyer, Rick Meyer (Sydney), Jen Hodges (Jordan), and Danny Hodges. He leaves two great grandchildren, Lincoln Stovall and Lucy Stovall.
John was born May 27, 1930 to Lucille and Edward McCarthy in Memphis, TN. He attended Christian Brothers High School and joined the U.S. Naval Reserve after graduation.
He later went into sales and made his home in Nashville, TN. He was a longtime member of Holy Rosary Church in Donelson.
Visitation will be held at Hibbett & Hailey Funeral Home on Thursday, March 21, 2019 from 6 to 8 pm, and at Holy Rosary Church on Friday, March 22, 2019 from 11 am to 12 pm. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Rosary Church on Friday, March 22, 2019 at 12 pm with Father Dan Steiner officiating.
Interment will follow at Hermitage Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Holy Rosary Church or School, Donelson, TN.
