He was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Sally Corkran Simpkins; parents F. M. and Susie Tidwell Simpkins; sisters Zanie Taylor, Jean Rodgers, Frankie Crouch and Mary Nell Mills, and brother William Simpkins.
He is survived by his daughter, Susie Fleming (John) of Mountain Home, AR; son, Sam Simpkins (Jolie) of Dickson, TN; grandchildren, Annie Grace Groves (Garret) of Rector, AR and Julie Fleming of Mountain Home, AR., sister, Jane Simpkins of Nashville, TN and a number of nephews and nieces.
He graduated from Cumberland High School and George Peabody College for Teachers before teaching for both Davidson County and Metro Nashville Public Schools. After retiring from teaching, he enjoyed working as a docent at Belle Meade Mansion and as a host at Woodlawn-Roesch-Patton Funeral Home. He was a member of Belmont United Methodist Church.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, February 8th 2025, at 11:00 am at Woodlawn Memorial Park, 660 Thompson Ln., Nashville, TN 37204.
