

John Quay Spears Sr., 66, passed away on Saturday, March 7th at his home in Christiana, TN. Preceded in death by his mother, Faye Virginia Hobson, and brother, Emmitt Junior Spears. Survived by his wife of 11 years, Marsha Malone Spears; daughter, Ramona (Travis) Lea Martin; son, John Quay Spears Jr.; grandchildren, Nathan Martin, Autumn Martin, and Jacob Martin; brother, Ronald Dean Damron, and sister, Teresa (Trey) Faye Motley.
He was born on November 1, 1948, and was a native of Pikeville, KY. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served from 1968 to 1971, including one tour of duty in Vietnam. He was a Specialist 5th Class in the Quartermaster Corps responsible for transporting munitions and supplies. During this time he earned the following medals: National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, and Two Overseas Bars. He started working at Coca Cola Bottling Co. in December 1972, and retired with 40 years of service in December 2012.
Visitation with family from four o’clock in the afternoon until eight on Tuesday, March 10, 2015, and again from ten o’clock in the morning until one on Wednesday, March 11, 2015, at Woodlawn Funeral Home. Memorial service to follow in Woodlawn Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Al Henson officiating. Interment, with full military honors, will be at one o’ clock in the afternoon on Thursday, March 12, 2015, at Middle Tennessee Veterans Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Nashville - Wounded Warrior Project.
