He was a Korean War Veteran, 1948 graduate of Father Ryan High School and parishioner of 65 years at St. Edward Catholic Church, Nashville, TN.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years Edna Earle Bomar Stephens; parents, Frank and Catherine Bauerlein Stephens; sisters, Mary Catherine Stephens, Barbara Sullivan and Virginia Alford; in-laws, Milton and Josephine Devine Bomar; sister in-law, Mary Rita Bomar .
He leaves behind his sons, John (Dawnne) Stephens Jr. of Hendersonville, TN, Rev. Tim Stephens S.J. of Charlotte, NC; and daughter, Rita (John) Boyd of Mount Juliet, TN; grandchildren, J.T. (Gabrielle) Stephens of Castro Valley, CA, Kenneth (Allen Phelps) Stephens of Nashville, TN, Katie Boyd (partner Craig Casias) of Madison, TN and Christy (Michael) Canonico of Manhattan, NY; great-granddaughters, Natalie Marie Stephens and Ellie Grace Stephens of Castro Valley, CA, and Clare Irene Canonico of Manhattan, NY; sister, Gretchen Stephens of West Lafayette, IN
Visitation was held on Wednesday, March 6, 2024 from 4-8pm with a 7pm Rosary at Marshall-Donnelly-Combs Funeral Home.
Mass of Resurrection was celebrated by Rev. Tim Stephens S.J. and Msgr. Pat Garrity at 11 am on Thursday, March 7, 2024 at St. Edward Catholic Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Father Ryan High School or St. Edward School Tuition Assistance Funds.
