

Elder Johnny B. Waters, Sr. was born in Nashville, Tennessee on July 24, 1931 to the late Fant and Hildah Waters. He passed away on April 22, 2020 at the Alvin C. York VA Medical Center, Murfreesboro, TN.
Elder Waters attended school in Nashville, Tennessee. He enlisted in the United States Air Force where he served his country proudly and received an Honorable Discharge.
His union to Marcell Waters in August 1954 lasted until her death in February 2010.
He enjoyed fishing, and playing his guitar in which he always said the Lord taught him how to play. His array of guitars exhibits his love for music. His favorite song which he sang up until he could barely remember the words was “Watch Ye Therefore You Know Not the Day” where he would break out singing anywhere!
He was called by the God to serve in the Church of God in Christ where he received salvation and sanctification at Prayer Temple Church of God in Christ under the late T. O. Fondren. He served as faithful member and deacon for many years until he was called to serve as Pastor of the Holy Temple Church of God in Christ. There he served as a humble servant of God until his health started to decline for thirty plus years.
Elder Waters held many positions in the Church of God in Christ, Superintendent for Tennessee Eastern First District, Adjutant and numerous other positions in the district.
Elder Waters later formed a union with Olivia Johnson and he moved his membership to the Born Again Church under the leadership of Bishop Horace Hockett.
Elder Waters was employed by the Nashville Public Schools, a bus driver for Metro Transit Authority and later became a truck driver for Exxon Oil Company. He believed he could not serve two masters and his pure devotion to God led to his early retirement.
Elder Waters was also preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Marcell Waters, brother, Thaxton Waters, Sr. and grandson, Christopher Waters.
Elder Waters leaves to cherish his memories sons, Johnny, Jr. (Ernestine); Ricky (Brenda), Reginol (better known as Pumpkin or Reggie), daughters, Kathy (Ira) and Pamela; sister, Fannie Dean Glenn, Detroit, Michigan. Elder Waters has 13 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews other family and friends.
