He was born in Nashville and was a proud graduate of Franklin Road Academy, Class of 1990, and Southern Methodist University, where he earned a degree in Art History in 1994. His love of art, culture, and learning took him beyond the classroom. He spent time abroad during college in Italy and Greece and later taught English in Prague and Mexico, experiences that shaped his lifelong curiosity and appreciation for the world. Lance found joy in the outdoors and felt most at peace while hiking and exploring nature. A gifted photographer, he had a special eye for capturing quiet beauty in the world around him. A devoted Steeplechase fan, the event was one of his favorite traditions and a treasured chance to gather with friends. Lance was intentional about maintaining friendships and was known for staying connected with those he cared about.
He had a deep love for the theater and carefully saved playbills from every performance he attended, each one holding a memory. His passion for art extended far beyond museums—he kept many of his art history textbooks long after his studies, a testament to his enduring love of art and in learning. Lance also had a true gift for cooking and delighted in putting his own creative spin on family recipes, always cooking with care and generosity.
An avid reader and enthusiastic traveler, Lance approached life with curiosity and an open heart. Growing up, he cherished time with his family and especially loved water skiing, snow skiing, fishing, and long days at the beach—simple joys that stayed with him throughout his life.
