Laura Sue McGee-age 89 of Nashville, TN departed this life on Friday May 20, 2011 at home after a brief illness. She was born Friday February 10, 1922 in Silver Point, TN Mary Dee Smith and George Frazier and later moved to Nashville, where she lived the rest of her life.
Sue was a very unique person, possessing her own way of thinking with a very outgoing personality and true zest for life. She started her career as a long-distance operator for South Central Bell in early 1940’s and retired after 34 years. She loved her career as a cord board operator for the phone company and always had funny stories to share about the calls that she would receive. Sue was a dedicated member of the congregation at West Nashville Cumberland Presbyterian Church and enjoyed being with her church family, and Pioneers of America.
Sue had many hobbies during her life that kept her busy. She loved to write poems. She wrote hundreds of poems ranging from funny to romantic, to sad and silly. She really got a kick out of reading her poems to her family and friends. Sue also had a fondness for bowling and was really quite good at knocking down the pins. Her trophy collection and patches might be her most prized possessions as they show all of the bowler’s milestones. She hit them all! She was on a bowling league with her dear friends into her eighties.
Sue also loved to sing. She was in her church choir for many years and also a member of the Choraliers singing group. She would go each week to sing to the “elderly” in nursing homes and other facilities. She really felt this was a great way to make others feel good. She will be missed by her family and friends.
Sue is survived by two daughters, Ann (Wayne) Jones, Nashville, TN; Sherry (Mike) Anderson, Bartlett, TN; three grandchildren Melissa (Jeff) Garner, Niles, MI; Charlie (Jana) Anderson, Bell Buckle, TN; Traci (Scott) McSwain, Germantown, TN; seven great-grandchildren Chirs Lewellen, Carter Anderson, Jack McSwain, Michael Anderson, Luke McSwain and Laura Marie Anderson.
