She is survived by husband Joe McConnell and daughter Dr. Mindy M. Thompson (Jeff), grandchildren Tyler and Tinsley Thompson, and many cousins, aunts and uncles of the Neal and Edmondson families.
She was a 1964 graduate of Nashville Central High School located on Rains Avenue just one block from her childhood home on Neal Terrace. She loved her school, neighborhood and school friends, some of whom remained good friends. Sandra Powers (Joe) remained her very best friend; she loved Jesus and was baptized at Judson Baptist Church at age eleven. Linda was a member of the Honor Board, marching band majorette and an A student.
Linda began working right out high school as a secretary and bookkeeper; she spent most of her adult years working at small and medium size businesses including 21 years as Secretary and Treasurer of MEC, Inc., Joe’s engineering and land surveying firm—she was in responsible charge of “just about everything”—Joe says Linda may have saved the company after an economic slump and that marrying him saved his life.
Linda and Joe moved to Smyrna, Tennessee when they married where they lived for about 12 years before moving back to Nashville; her best friends in Smyrna were Charlotte McAnally and Esther Victory. They moved to Gallatin, Tennessee in 2015 to be near Mindy, Jeff and the grandchildren who had moved there a couple years before.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Scenic View Baptist Church, 2111 Elm Hill Pike Nashville, and TN 37210.
