Louis J. Bervoets passed away peacefully on August 14, 2025. Born January 21,1933, in Nashville, Tennessee to Sarah Johnson and Louis Joseph Bervoets, Sr., Louie was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Theresa Bervoets Sutherland, of Memphis.
Louie is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Marie DeGrella Bervoets, and their son, Michael Bervoets (Lori) and daughter Sarah Bervoets Pinson (Tommy). He was a very proud grandfather to Jeremy Bervoets (Adriana), Kendall Bervoets and Carly Bervoets. He is also survived by his younger sister, Sara Bervoets Tripiciano (Pat) of Fairfield Glade, TN and most recently Mooresville, NC, along with many nephews and nieces.
He attended Father Ryan High School where he met Marie, at a football game. After graduating, he joined the Navy and served for four years during the Korean War. Upon returning home, he earned his bachelor's degree in Economics from Middle Tennessee State University.
He married Marie in September of 1959 and began his career in accounting at Cain-Sloan Department Store. He went on to become a Vice President at DeGrella Produce Company and later worked for the State of Tennessee's Agriculture department as a Purchasing Administrator. He loved this job, as it allowed him to travel and experience the beauty of the state's many parks.
He and Marie shared a passion for travel, exploring the world and making new friends together. They also loved sharing their adventures with their children and grandchildren, often traveling with them. Louie was a true southern gentleman, an avid reader with quick wit and known for his love of singing. He was a member of the Music City Chorus and sang in the Nashville Barbershop in the 1960’s and 70’s. A faithful Catholic, he sang in the choir at St. Henry's Catholic Church and directed music at St. Thomas Hospital (West) Chapel and Mary Queen of Angels. He was also a fourth-degree member of the Knights of Columbus.
A fun fact about his life: He received a German chocolate cake for every birthday since 1972, a tradition that continued for 53 years.
A special thank you to the staff at the Harmony at Bellevue and Gentiva Hospice who loved and cared for Lou throughout his stay. He felt your kindness and support and for that we are truly grateful.
