Marvin spent his early years in Hickman, Tennessee after his father died. He loved growing up in the country and had many adventures there with his brother Lucius. Before high school, his mother moved them back to Nashville where there were more job opportunities for her. Marvin graduated from East High School and joined the Navy during World War II where he served on a ship in Japan for the duration of the war. After returning home, he married his high school sweetheart, Joan, and went to work for Direct Oil Company, where he worked for 42 years. He loved woodworking and spent many hours in his backyard shop making and fixing things. He also had a green thumb and enjoyed tending the beautiful gardens in his yard. In his last few years, he also developed a love of reading and could be found all around Rutland Place with a book in hand.
Marvin loved the Lord with all of his heart and lived his life showing others that love. He was a longtime member of Edgefield Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon for over 70 years and led a men’s Sunday School class for many years. He was always fixing things at the church building and helping others in any way that he could.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 52 years, Joan Stevens Agee, as well as his brothers, Howard (Nell) Agee and Lucius (Aline) Agee, his sister, Frances (John) Haley, and his beloved granddaughter, Leandra Joy Goforth.
He is survived by his daughter, Pam (Ken) Goforth and his son, Mike (Mickie) Agee, as well as his grandchildren, Amy (Mike) Assad, Lori (Matt) Brandes, and Michael (Kasi) Agee, and six great-grandchildren, Ethan and Aaron Assad, Jack and William Brandes, and Caleb and Calli Agee.
To celebrate Marvin’s life, a service will be held at Woodlawn-Roesch-Patton Funeral Home, 660 Thompson Lane on Friday, November 28th with a visitation at 12:00 and service at 1:00. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Edgefield Church or a charity that is important to you.
