Mary Ann Houghland

Mary Ann Pollard Houghland, age 86, of Brentwood, TN passed away November 12, 2024 at Ascension Saint Thomas Hospital in Nashville, TN. She was born in Jersey City, NJ to Thomas Vinson Pollard and Lois Delula Dannelly. The family moved to Griffin, GA in 1946. She attended Wesleyan College, Macon, GA and University of Edinburgh, Scotland, UK. For 25 years she was an elementary school teacher and guidance counsellor in Fort Lauderdale, FL. She loved to travel and was an excellent cook. She appreciated nature and wildlife of all kinds. She especially enjoyed supporting the Gorilla Doctors, an organization dedicated to conserving wild mountain and eastern lowland gorillas.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Calvin Houghland. She is survived by her sister, Patricia Pollard Kinnett of Griffin; nephew James Taylor Kinnett III (LB) of Griffin; niece Robin Kinnett Mead (Brian) of Griffin; great niece Lela Rubi Kinnett of Davis, West Virginia; great nephew Murray Armando Kinnett of Lynn Haven, FL; great nephew Ethan Lewis Staats Jr. of Seattle, Washington and great nephew Zimmerman McDowell Staats of Tuscaloosa, AL.

A funeral service will be held on December 27 at First United Methodist Church, 1401 Maple Drive, Griffin at 2:00 PM. Friends may visit the family at the church from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM.
