Mary Evelyn (Massey) Beard

Mary Evelyn Massey Beard, age 93 of Murfreesboro, TN, departed this life on December 23, 2020 in Hermitage, Tennessee. She was born on February 15, 1927 in Smith County, Tennessee to the Late Pierce Hilton and Lois Elizabeth Gregory Massey. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lester Vernon Beard and her siblings, Betty Jean Massey Rankin and Jack Hilton Massey.

Evelyn married Lester Vernon Beard on April 17, 1948 in Rutherford County, Tennessee at her parents home. She attended Business College in Nashville. Evelyn and Vernon raised their family in Clarksville. After her husbands death, she moved to Nashville. Evelyn worked as a secretary for the State of Tennessee Department of Agriculture until her retirement. Upon her retirement, she moved to Murfreesboro.

Evelyn loved the outdoors, going camping and loved to travel. She had visited most of the States within the United States, traveled to various countries in Europe and Scandinavia. Evelyn held strongly to her Christian beliefs and greatly enjoyed being with her Sunday School class members in the Joy Class at Westwood Baptist Church in Murfreesboro.

Evelyn is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Carol Beard (Larry) Hall; sons and daughter-in-laws, Michael (Sharry) Beard, Ralph (Heather) Beard and Alan (Jodi) Beard; grandchildren, Jason (Amanda) Hall, Scott A. Beard, Staci Beard (Mathieu) Lefebvre; great-grandchildren, Adrian Hall, Jonah Hall, Remi Lefebvre and Beck Lefebvre; sisters, Sue Massey Smith, Anne Massey and Gracie Massey Sullivan and one brother and sister-in-law, John A. (Ruby) Massey.

A private Graveside Service was held at Woodlawn Memorial Park.
