Mary Douglas George Sanders Gaston

She was the daughter of the late John Herman and Pauline Fulks George. She grew up on a farm in Sumner County, Cottontown, TN.

She is preceded in death by her first husband, Blythe Bond Sanders Sr. and her husband, Marbut Gleen Gaston, Sr. She is also preceded in death by her brother, Charles Presley George; and three sisters, Ruth George Profit Woods, Jewell Christine Johnson and Elizabeth Ann George Lafever.

Mary was a member of Woodmont Christian Church. She was an active member of the Woman’s Club of Nashville and enjoyed playing bridge. She also enjoyed playing the piano at parties. Mary belonged to the American Legion Post 5 Ladies Auxiliary. Mary loved gardening, was an avid golfer, and was one of the first female realtors in Nashville in the 1950s. Mary was a world traveler and loved her family and friends. Mary was also the devoted “Mama Mary” to ten grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren. Mary laughed often and enjoyed life.

Mary leaves behind her beloved daughters, Sharon Sanders Rudolph (Maurice C. Hildebrant) and Lisa Gaston Sacks (Kenneth L.); her beloved son, Blythe Bond Sanders Jr. (Dorothy Swain); step-sons, William Harper Gaston (Nona) and Marbut G. Gaston, Jr. (Kathy); grandchildren, John Sanders Rudolph (Melissa), Blythe Bond Sanders III (Missy), Melissa Sanders Harmon (Chris), Leslie Rudolph Campbell (Troy), Martin Duane Luplow, Jr., and Mason Gaston Luplow; step-grandchildren, Dr. Glenn Gaston (Krissa), Tiffany Gaston Dale (Jackson), and Lindsey Gaston Murrell (Nathan); her sister, Patricia George Gibbs (Bobby) of Adamsville, TN; and many friends.

Family and friends will gather at Woodlawn Roesch-Patton Funeral Home on Thursday, January 4, 2018, for visitation from five to seven o’clock in the evening. Funeral service to take place on Friday, January 5, 2018 at ten o’clock in the morning, also at Woodlawn, followed by interment at Woodlawn Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Woodmont Christian Church or Alive Hospice.
