Mary Ellen McMurray Ragan devoted mother, passed away Monday, the 8th of June. She was born October 18, 1930, in Nashville, Tennessee. Mary Ellen has a list of academic achievements. She attended the Peabody Demonstration School. Graduated from Ward-Belmont Preparatory School, in 1948 receiving The Latin Medal, Vanderbilt University, 1953 Summa Cum Laude, Founders Medal, and a member of Phi Beta Kappa. Attending Art School, High Museum, Atlanta, Georgia. The Art Students’ League, New York City. She received a B.A in Fine Arts, in 1977 and Master of Fine Arts, 1980 from The American University, Washington, DC. Elected to Phi Kappa Phi Honorary Society.
Preceded in death by her parents Ellen Brackin, John William McMurray; brother John William McMurray and husband Hudson Berney Ragan.
Survived by sons Hudson Berney Ragan III and John William Ragan, grandchildren Taylor Rye Ragan, Hayes Miller Ragan, Elizabeth Claire Ragan, Kathryn Claire Ragan and William Hudson Ragan.
Mary was a proud member of St. George’s Episcopal Church, Belle Meade Country Club and Cheekwood Botanical Gardens & Fine Arts Center.
