Mary Susan Wells, 72, passed away suddenly on July 10, 2025 in her home in Nashville, TN. Susan was born December 17, 1952 to Dale S. Hall and Laura F. Hall in Gainesville, FL, and spent her childhood in New York, New Jersey, New York again, Rhode Island, Georgia, and Florida. She graduated from the University of Massachusetts in 1975, was married in 1976, and moved with her family to Jacksonville, FL, in 1980 to be near her beloved sister Laura. There, she raised a family of three children, dedicating her life and time to them and serving as their emotional anchor and guide through life. After her grandchildren were born, she moved to Nashville in 2020 to be close to her daughter, whose family she joyfully supported every day. She had many hobbies throughout her life, including reading, meticulous crafts, TV and movies, history, shopping, and collecting treasures. She adored cats and adopted many throughout her life. She loved a good cookie, casseroles, and Mexican food. She had a great wit and loved to laugh. She was gentle and kind, and showed genuine empathy towards others. She always offered a listening ear and had good advice and perspective to give on any topic. She was fiercely protective, loyal, and strong, and suffered no fools. She taught her family by example to focus on the positive and not to take life too seriously. She was irreplaceable and will be sorely missed by everyone whose life she touched.
She is survived by her children, Nathan J. Wells (Beth), Philip C. Wells (Kara), and Jessica F. Wickham (Josh), grandchildren, James F. Wells, Owen L. Wickham, and Eliza F. Wickham, sisters, Laura J. Grieve (Marv) and Janet F. Uhal, nephews and nieces, Daniel D. Grieve (JeeSun), Scott C. Grieve (Elizabeth), Jenna F. Bliss (Thomas), Victor G. Uhal, and Julie R. Uhal (Colum), and her sweet cat Oliver.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Dale and Faye Hall, and her ex-husband Stephen Wells.
