Memory Kay Greene Johnson, born July 19,1935 in Weogufka, Alabama, died June 22, 2022. Preceded in death by her husband, Donald C. Johnson; parents, Keener and Carrie Greene; and brothers John R. Greene and Van T. Greene. Survived by her son, Charles M. Johnson (wife Carol D. Johnson); daughter, Carrie L. Johnson (wife Lisa J. Raguso); grandchildren, Matthew Johnson (wife, Stacie Johnson) and Katie J. Cockrell (husband, Calvin Cockrell); great-granddaughter, Kaylie Johnson.
Kay was a graduate of Woodlawn High School in Birmingham, AL. In 1955, she met and married the love of her life, Donald C. Johnson. They lived in Hawaii while Don was in the Air Force before coming home to the US to settle down in Nashville, TN. Kay and Don eventually bought a home in Donelson, Tennessee to raise a family.
Mrs. Johnson was a stay-at-home mother while her children were in grade school. This allowed her to focus on raising her children and supporting their interests. Kay was active as a class mother, PTO member and officer, art teacher, and band parent as well as McGavock Band Booster officer. Over the years, Mrs. Johnson supported her husband as a multi-sport coach at Howard High School and as an administrator at Wright Jr. High School in Metro Nashville Public Schools. Kay was active in the United Methodist Women in Nashville, TN and Springville, AL. She enjoyed painting, working in her yard, and attending to her pond. Mrs. Johnson cherished time with her children, grandchildren, great grandchild, and extended family.
When Kay re-entered the work force, she started as a secretary for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service in the Tennessee State office. Over the years, she would rise to the position of administrative officer for the United States Department of Agriculture, Animal Damage Control.
In her later years, Mrs. Johnson returned to her home state of Alabama to be close to her mother, brothers, and family. She resided in Springville, AL before relocating to Jacksonville, AL.
