In response to the death of his brother, John in 1985, Michael was a founding member of Save Our Shell, Inc., an organization which prevented the city of Memphis from razing the WPA Band Shell in Overton Park. He volunteered for many years with Save Our Shell, organizing fundraising events and volunteers, renovating the Shell, scheduling musicians to perform at concerts and publicizing events. These efforts met with great success, as the Shell continues to be a mecca of music and performances in Memphis.
An Independent Contractor, Michael renovated and remodeled homes and buildings in Memphis, Nashville and Asheville, NC. He was an avid Flea Market vendor throughout the greater Nashville area and also sold vintage treasures on eBay. He graduated from Memphis Technical High School and attended the University of Memphis.
Michael was a devoted and loving father to his son Dylan. He extended this love to Dylan’s sweetheart, Mara Caoile. Michael was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel G. and Alice Donnelly Hanrahan and brothers, Daniel J.; Thomas, and John. He is survived by his son Dylan; four sisters; Mary Alice Thomassen of Calgary, Canada; Clare Hanrahan of Asheville, NC; Eileen (Eddie) Queener of Rogersville, TN and Regina Sides of Wildersville, TN. He also leaves one brother, Robert (Vernua) Hanrahan of Memphis and numerous nieces and nephews.
