Michael James Nickel

Mikey, as he was known to family and friends is survived by his Father, Jim (Barbara) Nickel of Dyersburg, TN; his Brother, Mark Nickel of Hermitage, TN; Sister, Candi (Chad) Martin of Smyrna, TN and Step-Brother, Michael (Lisa) Check as well as 4 nieces and a nephew. He is preceded in death by his Mother, Pam Check and Step-Father, Ronald Check.

Michael was born on July 30, 1970 in Nashville, TN. He graduated from Western Kentucky University with a B.A in Advertising in 1992 and received a Masters of Fine Arts in Creative Writing 4 years later from the University of Memphis.

Mike was an exceptional writer and was published in the Chicago Review. He was known for his quick wit and exceptional sense of humor as well as his love of sports, music and cinema. But more than anything, he was known for his deep love of his family and his unconditional giving nature towards his friends.
