

Michel C. Hopper, 75, of La Vergne, died Friday, Dec. 2 at Lakeshore Heartland nursing home in Nashville, of cancer. He was born Aug. 4, 1941 in Memphis, Tenn. He was the oldest child of David and Elaine (Kee) Hopper. Mr. Hopper attended the public schools in Memphis, graduating from White Station High School in 1959. He graduated from Memphis State University in 1963, where he was a member of Lamba Chi Alpha. Mr. Hopper served as an artillery officer in the U.S. Army during the 1960s. His military service included a two-year deployment to South Korea. He married Mary Campbell in 1970 at Union Avenue Church of Christ in Memphis. They were married 46 years. After moving to Nashville in 1974, Mr. Hopper worked as a certified public accountant, first working at Third National Bank and then serving as Treasurer of Gaylord Corp. from 1991 until his retirement in 2002. Above all else, Mr. Hopper was dedicated to his family and to Christ. He and Mary were members of Una Church of Christ for over 40 years, and it was the center of their spiritual, charitable, and social lives. In addition to his wife, Mr. Hopper is survived by a brother, John (Carmel), of Collierville, Tenn., four sons, Brian (Jeannie), Oxford, Miss., Graham (Katherine), Nashville, David (Rachel), Hermitage, and Rob (Jennie), Old Hickory, and eight grandchildren. Gathering of family and friends will take place on Friday, December 9, 2016, from five to seven o’clock in the evening. Funeral service will be held at Una Church of Christ on Saturday, December 10, 2016, at ten o’clock in the morning. Burial will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery at twelve thirty in the afternoon after the funeral service Saturday.
