Moulton Farrar III

January 26, 1928 – October 12, 2018. Following a courageous three-year battle with health issues, Moulton Farrar III passed away peacefully with family and friends by his side. Moulton was a loving husband to wife, Dicki, for 51 years, as well as a devoted father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was the quintessential southern gentleman and always had a kind word for those around him. Moulton was a lifelong resident of Nashville - his favorite saying was, “A day out of middle Tennessee is a day wasted!”

Moulton attended Parmer Elementary school, Montgomery Bell Academy and Sewanee where he played football. He was a member of Delta Sigma high school fraternity and Phi Delta Theta fraternity (Sewanee). He was a longtime member of Belle Meade Country Club, Cedar Creek Club, Franklin Noon Rotary Club, and a faithful member of the Original Men’s Bible Class at Woodmont Christian Church. An avid hunter and sportsman, Moulton thoroughly enjoyed competing with his friends, sons-in-law, and grandchildren in any challenge – whether a game of badminton, tennis, golf, pool, horseshoes or washers. One of his favorite past times was participating in golf and tennis tournaments at Belle Meade Country Club. Mr. Farrar was highly regarded in the bedding industry. He worked at family-owned Jamison Bedding for over 38 years where he served as president from 1980 to 1986. He was held in high esteem by both employees and patrons alike, many of whom stayed in touch with him long after he retired. He was happiest at his cabin on Kentucky Lake in Camden, TN, where he took equal joy in feeding ‘his’ birds and shooting the squirrels that bothered them.

Mr. Farrar is survived by his four daughters, Candace Farrar Johnsey (Ron), Dallas, TX, Lucile Farrar Crouch, Dallas, TX, Adelaide Farrar LeBlanc Pratt (Jerry), Franklin, TN, and Lynne Farrar Robertson (Ken), Brentwood, TN. ‘Daddy Moult’ was also survived by a bevy of grandchildren, Grant Johnsey (Karin), Molly Johnsey Hayes (Brendan), Burton Johnsey (Arisa), Bert Crouch (Haylie), Adair Crouch Webb (Clark), Moulton LeBlanc, Candis LeBlanc, Micah Pratt Doyle, Mitch Pratt, Daniel Robertson, Ann Robertson Clemens(Peter John), John Robertson; and 11 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by cousins Lucile Anutta McCarthy (Jerry), John L. Batey, Jr. (Melissa) and Marguerite Batey Redd; and niece, Cindy Farrar Herndon (Pete).

Moulton was preceded in death by his wife, Ann Dickson Wharton Farrar, his parents, Lucile Jamison Farrar and Moulton Farrar, Jr., and by his brother, Henry Jamison Farrar.

Active pallbearers are Grant Johnsey, Burton Johnsey, Bert Crouch, Moulton LeBlanc, Mitch Pratt, Daniel Robertson, John Robertson, Clark Webb, Brendan Hayes and Peter John Clemens. Honorary pallbearers are John Batey, Jr., John Lumpkin and Thad Pettyjohn.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, October 16 at Marshall Donnelly Combs, Nashville from 4:30 to 6:30pm. Visitation will also be held on Wednesday, October 17 from 10:00 – 10:45am at Woodmont Christian Church (Nashville, TN) followed by a Memorial Service at 11:00am. Interment will be at Woodlawn Memorial Park.

The family wishes to express heartfelt gratitude to all of the Angel Caregivers who provided excellent and loving care to ‘Mr. Moulton’.
