Nancy Wilhoit Norris of Nashville, TN passed away on March 5, 2019 after a lengthy battle with pancreatic neuroendocrine cancer. She was born May 9, 1951 in Johnson City, TN and attended Science Hill High School. She attended Memphis State University where she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Education. After finishing her degree she returned to Johnson City and married Jack Onks. Together, they had one daughter, Katie. Nancy worked as a school social worker for Washington County and taught first grade at Boones Creek Elementary School. After her husband Jack took a job in Knoxville, TN, she made Knoxville her home for 17 years. After twenty nine years of marriage, Jack Onks passed away and Nancy moved to Nashville to be with her daughter. She joined West End United Methodist Church and volunteered with various organizations including Project Transformation, the Last Minute Toy Store, and Meals on Wheels. She met her husband, Steve Norris, in the Open Study Sunday School Class at West End UMC.
She is survived by her husband Steve C. Norris, daughter Katherine Onks Stone (Jarrod), two grandchildren Briar and Lola Katherine, sister Jane Anderson, brother Tim Wilhoit (Donna), and two nieces and their families. She was preceded in death by husband Jack Eugene Onks, Jr. and parents Kenneth E. Wilhoit and Katherine Y. Wilhoit.
A memorial service will be held at West End United Methodist Church at 11:00 am on Monday, March 11, 2019 with a lunch reception and celebration immediately following. Nancy requested that donations be made to one of her two favorite charities, Project Transformation or Second Harvest Food Bank, in lieu of flowers. Alternatively, donations of children’s books can be brought to the church.
