Raymond Earl Bryant of Nashville, TN, a beloved husband, father and grandfather, passed away peacefully from this physical world on Thursday, June 15, 2024. He was 91. Raymond was born to Ed G. Bryant and Blanche Carney Bryant on May 18, 1933, a post-depression era family that grew to seven brothers and two sisters. He attended school through the ninth grade at Cumberland High in Nashville and lettered in Forensics. He left school to help support his family.
On December 31, 1951, he married a seventeen year-old beauty who was the love of his life, Frances Ogeal Jackson. Their union lasted seventy-two years until his death and their love and devotion were an inspiration to all who knew them. Raymond obtained his GED after his children were born, setting the example for the importance of education. Two children were born to Raymond and Frances, Debbie (Glenn) Kilgore and Michael (Sheryl) Bryant. Debbie and Michael became the family’s first-generation college graduates, continuing their Father’s love of learning. In 2002 he added the title of Poppy with the birth of their granddaughter Carolina Bryant. Two years later, he got to double the fun with the birth of grandson Mark Bryant. He was deeply loved by them both.
Raymond had a superhuman ability to fix anything. He had a successful career as Maintenance Staff for Colonial Bread Baking Company and Baird Ward Printing Company (aka Arcadia). Raymond was a talented mechanic, whose skilled hands and sharp mind brought precision and care to everything he touched. He retired in 1996, but continued repairing and repurposing anything with a motor. He loved cars, bicycles, lawnmowers and tools and had a passion for understanding how stuff worked. Family and neighbors benefited greatly from his skill and service. His passion for cars was matched only by his love for the outdoors, where he found great joy in his daily walks to Radnor Lake. He enjoyed nature and was a long-time volunteer at Radnor Lake. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him, but his spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those he loved and who loved him in return.
A Gathering of Family and Friends for Raymond will be held Tuesday, June 18, 2024 from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Woodlawn-Roesch-Patton Funeral Home & Memorial Park, 660 Thompson Ln, Nashville, TN 37204, Family will share memories and stories with one another beginning at 2:00 PM.
