

He grew up in Wilmington, Delaware and graduated from Purdue University. Following graduation he served for two years in the U.S. Army.
Following his marriage to Betty Ann, his wife of 61 years Nashville became his home. He served as auditor for Nashville City Bank before opening his own CPA firm Robert Norling, Certified Public Accountant.
His interests were many and varied. He had served as President of West Nashville Kiwanis Club, past President of Purdue Alumni Club board member of Barnard-Seyfert Astronomical Society.
He was a longtime member of West End United Methodist Church where he served on committees, taught Sunday School and had special affection for members of the “Backsliders” class.
He is pre-deceased by his parents, and his son, Robert Kirkpatrick Norling. Survivors include his wife; Betty Ann; daughter, Karen Manso (Pete); grandchildren, Jennifer Manso, Peter Manso, Heather Barker (Clay) and Jacqueline Manso and greatgrandchild, Lucas Robert Barker. Survivors also include his sister, Nancy Smith (Karl); and nephews, Eric Smith (Cindy), Mark Smith (Mary) and Neil Smith (Tina).
