Bob passed away peacefully Monday with family by his side. He was 85 years old. He was born in Nashville to William Thomas and Mary Ella Jackson Sharp. Bob is preceded in death by his parents, his sister Margie Marie Denham, son Christopher Alan Sharp and grandson Kevin Paul Davis. Survived by his wife Dorothy Joyce Oates Sharp, sister Katherine Sharp Flick, children Michael (Cindy) Sharp of Ashland City, Kay (Leonard) Suter of Hendersonville, Lisa (Chris) Johnson of Nashville, Teresa (Paul) Davis of Nashville, nine grandchildren, and 17 great grandchildren.
Bob was raised in Germantown where his parents owned a neighborhood grocery store. In his youth he could be found keeping the scoreboard for the Nashville Vols baseball team at Sulfur Dell Baseball Park. Bob met the love of his life, Joyce, at the Hippodrome Skate Center. He and Joyce were married at Assumption Church in 1955, the fourth generation of Sharp’s to be married there. Their marriage of nearly 68 years was an inspiration to his family.
Bob took great pride and sacrificed in order for his children to attend St. Pius X and Father Ryan High School. Always a hard worker, he began working at Marquette Cement Plant when he was 19 and retired after 28 years only to begin another career with Metro Nashville Public Works for another 25 years. He was an avid runner in his early years. You would often see him running from their Drakes Branch home to Father Ryan on Elliston Place to attend his children’s sporting events.
He loved the beach at sunset, flying kites, playing practical jokes on family and friends, and aggravating his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He especially loved his pets throughout the years. His dearest and most loyal dog, Lilly, stayed by his side everywhere he went. He was often heard saying “I love my dog.” Bob was surrounded by family, including Lilly, in his final days.
The Sharp family held a memorial service in the chapel at St. Henry Catholic Church on Friday, April 14, 2023. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made to the Kevin Paul Davis Memorial Scholarship Fund at Fr. Ryan High School. https://www.fatherryan.org/give/honorariums-memorials SPECIFY In memory of Robert Sharp for the Kevin Paul Davis Scholarship
