

into his eternal home on November 28, after 78
years of service on earth. Born to Sarah Evans
Carr & Arnold Gordon Carr, Ron grew up in Giles
County, VA & in summers worked on the farm of
his late grandfather, John Shannon Carr. He was also
predeceased by his parents & brother, Benny Gordon
Carr (Barbara).
Ron earned his degree in Civil Engineering from
VA Tech University (1958) & married the former
Nellrena Jewell of Roanoke, VA. He was
Commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in the US Army,
serving as an instructor at Ft. Knox, KY. Following
Military service he began his career as a
Highway engineer with the US Bureau of Public
Roads, now known as the Federal Highway
Administration of the US Dept of Transportation.
With their son & daughter, the family moved to
Nashville, TN in 1962 & Ron remained there
for the rest of his 43 year career. He often
Said he loved his job & never woke up dreading to
go to work.
Ron served in many capacities at Crievewood
Baptist Church including Sunday school work, as
Chairman of Deacons & on many committees,
& drove the church bus for the ESL Ministry &
outings for VIP’s (senior’s group). He was
a dedicated Scoutmaster for 11 years, completing
Woodbadge Training & receiving the Long Rifle
Award.
Survivors in addition to his wife of 56 years are son,
Wendyll Dean Carr (Sherry), daughter, Martha
Gayle Steely (R.T.); grandsons: Clinton John Steely,
Justin Michael Hughes (Dana Wolff), & Colin
Shannon Hughes: sister, Pamela Carr Tritley (Bill);
Brother Ricky Arnold Carr (Theresa); nieces, Lisa
Woodruff (Kris) & Lindsey Williams (Thad); nephews,
Travis Carr and Ryan Carr, sister-in-law-Rozella
Bower and nieces Leisel, Kristen, & Dory.
Ron was deeply loved by many and respected by all.
Visitation will take place in Fellowship Hall of
Crievewood Baptist Church Tuesday, Dec. 3rd four o’clock until eight o’clock
with Memorial Service in the Church Sanctuary Wednesday, Dec.4th
at eleven o’clock in the morning, followed by placement of the body in a crypt
at Woodlawn Cross Mausoleum.
