Russell Daniel Briggs

Russell Daniel Briggs - 79- of Nashville, TN, left this life on March 12, 2014 to be with his Lord and reunited with Elaine Thayer Briggs, his devoted wife of 43 years. He was a loving and involved father to Janet Briggs Hill (husband Tim) and Eric Briggs (wife Stacey). And Russ adored and enjoyed his three grandchildren - Ryan Hill, Lauren Hill and Janet Briggs. He was preceded in death by his parents Daniel and Louise, and brother John. Russ is survived by his sister Louanne Briggs Shekell (husband Ron), sister-in-law Beverly Briggs and a large extended family including many wonderful nieces and nephews.

Born in 1934, Russ was an accomplished athlete as a young man. As a member of the Wolverine Sports Club in Detroit, he was an Olympic class speed skater, swimmer and cyclist winning numerous competitions nationwide. Russ also served his country in the US Air Force and was stationed in Japan. He lived in France and traveled throughout Europe as part of his college studies. Russ was a brilliant man and a successful professional in many fields. He led an exciting and diverse life as an aerospace tech writer, college professor, private pilot and flight instructor, published writer and consultant. Russ was active in his retirement with pursuits as a skier, ski instructor and avid golfer. He will be dearly missed by his family, and remembered fondly by many of his students and friends.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 am Monday, March 17, 2014 at Westminster Presbyterian Church.
