Ruth Moses Dorris, age 95, passed away on July 7, 2025. She was born in Robertson County, Tennessee, on March 21, 1930, and graduated from Cedar Hill High School. Throughout her teenage years and into her early adulthood, she was persistent in taking whatever job she could to make a better life for herself. Into adulthood, her persistence continued in raising her four daughters and meeting the needs of those around her. She and her late husband Donald called the small community of Berry Hill home. When Donald brought in produce from the family garden, she was the one who shucked the corn, canned the tomatoes, and shelled the beans. Her dedication to preserving food paid off in the many meals that she created for family, friends, and neighbors.
Ruth’s meals were not only a means to nourish her family but also were a ministry. She volunteered for years at the Community Care Fellowship to feed the homeless. When family and friends fell on hard times, she was at their door, meal in hand, and ready to help with whatever was needed. She faithfully attended and served at Wartrace United Methodist Church in Springfield, Tennessee. As she grew older, Ruth ensured that her daughters and their families had a place to call home for every holiday. She taught her grandchildren how to bake Christmas cookies and ensured that anyone who walked through the door of her home knew they were welcomed and cared for.
She is survived by her four daughters, Beverly Keogh (Steve), Elaine Dorris, Anita Foutch (Kevin), and Janet Arning (Ed); her sister Louise Dorris; her grandchildren Jesse Keogh (Noel), Rev. Wesley Arning (Megan), Carly Keogh, and Jake Arning (Hannah); and her great-granddaughters Hannah Lee Arning and Sydney James Keogh; and many loved nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Wartrace Methodist Church, 3718 Old Greenbrier Pike, Springfield, TN 37172 c/o Ruth Baggett.
