Born June 28, 1935, in LaGrange, Georgia. Died September 17, 2025, in Franklin, Tennessee.
Survived by daughter, Catherine Maddox West; son, Sidney Garrison Maddox (Denise); grandson, Trenton Garrison Maddox; granddaughter, Taylor Grace “GiGi” Maddox; sister, Fayann Maddox Moore; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Son of the late Jesse Garland Maddox and Esther Parmer Maddox, Sidney grew up in LaGrange, Georgia in a loving family with two brothers, James Garland Maddox and Jesse Cordell Maddox, and two sisters, Phyllis Maddox Watson and Fayann Maddox Moore. He graduated from LaGrange High School and earned a bachelor’s degree from Furman University while playing football on scholarship. At Furman, as a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity he met his soon to be wife, Claudia, from Nashville, TN. They were married on December 20, 1956.
After a stint in the army, Sidney and Claudia settled in Nashville, TN where he worked for his father-in-law, Claude Garrison, as a sales representative for Garrison and Associates, a manufacturer’s rep firm to the floral industry. When Claude retired Sidney purchased the company and successfully ran it until he retired in 1989.
Sidney was a member of Brentwood Baptist Church where he enjoyed the fellowship of the Gospel, singing, and meeting new friends. He was previously a member of Immanuel Baptist Church where he served as chairman of the deacons and was an active member of the Liston Mills Sunday School Class.
He enjoyed watching football and Lawrence Welk reruns, traveling, waterskiing, golf, and fishing in Florida, (although he rarely caught anything, when he did, he threw it to the pelicans). However, his true passion was to spend time with family and friends, to whom he was fiercely loyal. Sidney was a devoted husband, father, son, and friend, and he will be sorely missed. Woe be to the one who insulted or in any way harmed his loved ones.
A memorial service will be at 1pm on Friday, September 19, 2025, at Woodlawn-Roesch-Patton Funeral Home on Thompson Lane. Visitation will be from 12pm-1pm.
In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations in Sidney’s name to the Missionary Fund at Brentwood Baptist Church, Brentwood, TN.
