She became the toy buyer for McClure’s department store. In 1977, she joined Nelson in Brookside Properties, Inc. where she served as Executive Vice President.

Her past board memberships include First American Trust Company, where she chaired the Audit Committee, the Cumberland Museum, Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt, and the YWCA Advisory Board. She was a member of Leadership Nashville Alumni, the Junior League of Nashville, and the Centennial Club. In 1988, she received the Alexis de Tocqueville Award from the United Way of Tennessee.
Sue loved being a helicopter pilot (the first grandmother licensed in Tennessee!) and riding a unicycle. She enjoyed many hours playing bridge with her close circle of friends. She was a constant, beloved presence in the lives of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be at St. George’s Episcopal Church on November 22 at 1:30, with visitation before at noon. Her caregivers Vicky Phelps, Sharlene Reese, and Marian Mtetwa added immensely to her life.
