NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Susan “Sue” Oliver Bostick, a beloved wife, mother and grandmother who cherished her family, friends, books, music, and animals, died peacefully in her sleep on Dec. 19 after an extended illness. She was 90.
Born in 1935 to Perry S. and Glenda J. Oliver in Gainesville, Ga., Sue studied at Agnes Scott College in Atlanta and the University of Georgia before her marriage to C. Dent Bostick, later Dean and Professor of Law at Vanderbilt University Law School. The couple shared 66 years of loving marriage until his death in 2023.
A woman of strong faith, Sue showed heartfelt generosity and compassion to everyone in her life. She was very interested in the healing arts, including the Laying on of Hands, and participated for years in prayer groups devoted to bringing comfort to those in need. She loved the music of Bach and Schubert, whose keyboard works she enjoyed playing and found deeply moving. Poet Robert Frost, whom she once met at Agnes Scott, was also a favorite. She and her husband were longtime members of St George’s Episcopal Church in Nashville.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Dent, and by her daughter, Susan Bostick Fassnacht (Jo). She is survived by her son, Alan Dent Bostick (Katherine), and by her grandchildren, Cabell Fassnacht, of Washington, D.C.; Will Fassnacht (Katelynn), of Adairsville, Ga.; Camille Bostick, Kate Bostick and Rawson Bostick, all of Nashville.
A private Service of the Burial of the Dead will be held at St George's Episcopal Church, followed by interment in the church’s columbarium.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Somerfield Health Center at The Heritage at Brentwood for many years of dedicated care and support.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to St George’s Episcopal Church, 4715 Harding Pk, Nashville, TN 37205; Second Harvest Food Bank; or a charity of your choice.
