Tom's journey began in Tulsa, where he graduated from Will Rogers High School. He proudly served in the Air Force, and after completing his tour of duty, he began a fulfilling career with Equifax. It was during this time that he met his beloved wife, Nancy. Their love story blossomed, leading Tom to obtain a private investigator license and establish his own investigation business, Background America. His career took an exciting turn when his company was acquired by Mike Smerlin, which led to the opportunity to open an office in London, England. This new chapter allowed Tom and Nancy to embark on many memorable weekend trips together.
A true lover of the outdoors, Tom found joy in hunting and fishing, with bass fishing being his greatest passion. He frequently participated in bass-fishing tournaments, earning several awards and becoming well-known for his famous Fisherman's Handshake. Tom also enjoyed hosting fun cookouts for friends, where he would proudly serve his latest catch.
For over 34 years, Tom was a devoted member of Nashville First Church of the Nazarene and the Victory Sunday School Class. He was known for his warm smile and outstretched arms, always welcoming hugs from everyone he encountered on Sunday mornings.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Eldena Ellis; his sister, Delores Bush; and his son, Anthony Ellis. He is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Nancy Faye Ellis; his sisters, Darlene Underwood of Edmond, OK, and Vickie (Joe) Samus of Winter Haven, FL; stepsons, Keith, Kevin, and Kent (Heather) Jones; and step-granddaughter, Hailey Jones (Travis) Campbell, along with her children.
A Celebration of Life will be held for Tom on Monday, August 25, at his beloved church, Nashville First Church of the Nazarene, located at 510 Woodland Street, Nashville. Friends are invited to join the family for a time of visitation at 12 Noon, followed by the service at 1:30 p.m.
Tom's legacy of love, friendship, and adventure will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew him. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
