
Thomas Alexander Pirtle, III of Nashville, Tennessee, age 65, passed away on January 1, 2017. Tom is predeceased by his wife, Betty Darwin Pirtle; and parents, Mary “Chippy” Hall Pirtle and Thomas Alexander Pirtle, Jr. of Nashville, TN. Survived by brother, Edwin G. Pirtle, Nashville, TN; sister, Mary Pirtle Bettis (Dan), Maryville, TN; brother-in-law John Claude Darwin, III (Josephine); sister-in-law Elizabeth Darwin Grobmyer (Mark); nieces and nephews, John Darwin Grobmyer (Stacy), Little Rock, AR, Andrew Mallory Grobmyer (Suzanne), Little Rock, AR, Mark Draper Grobmyer, Austin, TX, Elizabeth Wills Darwin, Brooklyn, NY, John Claude Darwin, IV, Denver, CO, Jonathan Edward Bettis, Washington, DC, Matthew Fisher Bettis, Knoxville, TN, and Alexandra Hall Bettis, Nashville, TN; and great nieces and nephews, Elizabeth, Mary Mack, Jack and Margaret Grobmyer, all of Little Rock, AR. Born in Nashville, TN, Tom graduated from Montgomery Bell Academy and Vanderbilt University. A life-long Nashville Resident, Tom was a partner with The Parent Company and an active supporter of both his alma maters. Dearest to his heart were his family, friends, and Nashville community. Visitation with the family will be held on Saturday, January 7, 2017, at Cheek House, First Presbyterian Church, 4815 Franklin Pike, Nashville, from eleven o’clock until noon, and a memorial service will follow at the Cheek House. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Nashville Humane Society, First Presbyterian Church of Nashville or to a charity of your choice.
