William Cornelius Clarkson, a retired teacher of southern Williamson County, passed away on October 25, 2025, at the age of 81. Born on August 8, 1944, in Nashville, Tennessee, he dedicated his life to education, community service, and family.
For decades, Bill—known fondly to his students as “Mr. C”—taught elementary school science, where his hands-on “investigations” inspired curiosity and joy in countless children. His enthusiasm for learning left a lasting impact on generations of students.
After retiring from teaching, he devoted his time to serving many non-profit organizations throughout the community. Bill had a lifelong love of nature and found joy in gardening, hiking, and canoeing. His happiest adventures often took him north to Canada, especially to the Keywaydin Canoeing Camp, a place that held a special spot in his heart.
He enjoyed playing the guitar and listening to bluegrass music, was a loyal fan of Vanderbilt Athletics, and took great pleasure in sharing stories of his family’s history. Above all, he loved his family deeply and valued the time spent with them.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Alexander Clarkson and Allene Cornelius Clarkson, and his brother, Charles Walter Clarkson. He is survived by his children, sixteen grandchildren, and twenty great-grandchildren, who will forever remember his warmth, humor, and love of life.
