Ester M. Jimenez, of National City, passed away on December 26, 2020, a week after her 94th birthday. She was born on December 18, 1926 and is the 7th of 12 children born to Felix and Regina Mendaros; her youngest sister, Lourdes Mendaros of Stockton, is her sole surviving sibling. Ester married Augustus C. Jimenez (1952) and shortly thereafter, the Navy moved them to the United States. She is survived by her children Barbara (Clint) Taylor, Carolyn (Robert) Gerard, Diane (Claudio) Lanuza, Franklin Jimenez, and Glory (William) Ayres; 16 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.
Ester had a deep faith in Jesus and did her best to exemplify His life. She was an active member at St. Mary’s Church and served in various capacities for over 60 years. Many long-lasting friendships were made with the Filipino-American Association. She seldom missed a meeting with her Charismatic group and in later years, traveled worldwide with her closest friends. As a landlord for over 50 years, she used this as a ministry to help others whenever possible. Many will remember her generosity as she was instrumental in bringing several of her siblings and relatives to the US. She provided temporary housing in an empty rental unit or opened the doors to the family home. Each person’s needs were provided for until they were settled on their own.
Ester’s large extended family was her greatest and most important blessing. She was often at the center of family gatherings, made many fun memories, and had an impact on each person’s life. Some of her last words included the loving sentiment, “Tell everyone I love you all.” Her family was her pride and joy. She was loved and well respected by those who knew her, including relatives, in-laws and many lifelong friends near and far. Her presence will be dearly missed.
The memorial service will be held on Monday, January 11, 2021, 11 am at Funeraria del Angel, 3960 Imperial Avenue, San Diego. The private burial will be at La Vista Memorial Park, where Ester Jimenez will be laid to rest with her husband. A Celebration of Life will be held at a future date.
