Today we lay to rest an exceptional lady Margaret Anne Maguire known to friends and family as “Peggy”. No matter how you knew her you can count yourself as “blessed”. Peggy was a loving compassionate and humble person and brought joy to everyone she met.
Peggy was born in Lebanon, Pennsylvania on October 11,1928 and grew up with her Mom (Linda) and Dad (John) along with brothers in a modest family full of love.
Peggy grew up in Lebanon and attended school thru the 12th grade. Growing up with her brothers during the great depression was a difficult time that contributed to her strength and appreciation for life.
Later, she met our Dad Thomas Patrick Maguire (US NAVY) and he recognized her beauty and made her his wife. Now, a happily married couple and Peggy pregnant with twins, Tom was assigned duty on the West Coast. The twin boys (David & Parker) were born (April 9th, 1948) prematurely while Tom was out to sea on the USS Princeton. Peggy was notified that the ship was sunk and Tom was (MIA). With Peggy’s faith she prayed for Tom to come home and that he did. They lovingly created 3 more children and had 5 children to care for. Luckily, Peggy could cook, bake and turn leftovers into a delicious meal.
Peggy taught us many things in life- to live, to love and to laugh! She enjoyed life and found the good in everyone. She shared her joy with everyone she met and found happiness in little things, sharing a cup of tea with a friend or family member, playing card games or an evening walk after dinner. She could tell great stories about growing up or real-life situations that made you want to hear more.
She was a devoted member in her church “St. Rose of Lima” helping to form the first Rosary Guild, and starting the Ladies of Columbus Council.
Peggy was involved in her community while living in Borrego Springs and she started the first “Meals on Wheels” and volunteered at the Visitor’s Center.
Peggy was instrumental in her children’s and grandchildren’s lives by attending dance recitals, cheerleading competitions, soccer and baseball games. She attended everything from baptisms, graduations, weddings, and more. Peggy loved to host the family dinners that brought so many of us together.
Peggy enjoyed her later years with her late husband Ben Allen Secor.
She gave us all unconditional love, respect, confidence and filled our hearts with joy. With a smile and a wink, until we meet again. Thank you, mom, you will always be in our hearts.
