It is with a very heavy heart that we announce the passing of A.W. ‘Bill’ Bueckert. After a courageous fight and with his family by his side, Bill went peacefully in his sleep on December 22, 2016 at the Victoria General Hospital. Bill was in his 73rd year.
Bill leaves behind to cherish his memory his son Richard, his daughter Cindy (Gaetan); his grandchildren Rob (Alana), Kirsten (Tyler), Alex (Jordan), Erica, Jeremie, Nicolette & Mason; his great grandchildren Jackson & Ella; his siblings Elaine & Bob; brother-in-law Jack and his nephew and nieces
Rob, Leanne (Dave) & Shelaine (Wally).
Bill was predeceased by his loving wife, Luellyn (Hunter) in 1992.
Bill’s roots came from a humble beginning in Winkler, MB. As a young man, Bill was an extremely gifted athlete. His countless waterskiing accomplishments included being Manitoba’s first water ski jumper to break the 100’ barrier, repeatedly being named to both the Manitoba & Canadian Water Ski Teams, winning the 1960 Manitoba Provincial Water Ski Championship and, subsequently, earning the Canadian National Junior Jumping Water Ski Championship. In 1964, Bill became the very first Canadian Barefoot Endurance Tournament Champion with a time of 57 seconds.
Bill’s love for horsepower coupled with his entrepreneurial instinct catapulted the birth of several successful small businesses including B&B Mini-Motors and Centurion Engines, but it was his love for the water that accelerated the birth of the renowned Mister B Marineland. Together with his wife, Luellyn, they grew one of central Canada’s largest and most successful powersports dealerships. In 2015, as one of the original founders of the Mid-Canada Marine Dealers Association (MMDA), Bill was inducted into the MMPDA Hall of Fame. This induction recognized Bill’s numerous contributions for the growth and advancement of independent marine and powersports dealers.
After Bill’s retirement in 2001, he adopted his most recent travelling companion from the Winnipeg Humane Society - Benji. Benji was Bill’s fur buddy and was the only one allowed to interrupt a NASCAR race. The family would like to thank Cynthia H for welcoming Benji into her home and for providing him with an abundance of love.
Abiding with Bill’s wishes, there will be no service or Celebration of Life outside of the immediate family. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully asks that a donation to the Winnipeg Humane Society be made in Bill’s honor.
