Peacefully on Aug 22nd, 2020, at the young age of 53, following a lengthy illness which lasted just over a year, it is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Anita Darlene Vanderstel. At her family home in Oakbank, MB, Anita went to Heaven while in her husband’s arms, alongside with her two daughters & family by her side.
Anita will be lovingly remembered by her husband Kevin and her daughters Lindsay (18) and Ashley (12). She is also survived by her mother, Emma Horvath (Salamon), who currently resides at the Red River Place personal care home in Selkirk Manitoba. She is further survived by her close cousin Shirley Pothe, along with Joey & Suzanne Pothe & family. Anita was predeceased by her father, Charles Horvath.
Anita graduated from Transcona collegiate Institute in 1984. She went on to attend & graduate from the University of Winnipeg obtaining a Bachelor of Science, specializing in chemistry. She was offered a scholarship to pursue her Masters, but she declined, as she didn’t want to move from her home. While attending the University of Winnipeg, she worked part-time at the Eaton’s food court in downtown Winnipeg. She also had a summer job, working in chemistry labs at the University of Winnipeg. She eventually obtained a summer student position with the City of Winnipeg & went on to work for 28 years, mainly at the North End Treatment Plant, with the City of Winnipeg Water and Waste Department. In August 2018, she retired from the City of Winnipeg & her role as a Senior Lab Technician.
Anita was very close with & loved her family deeply. She loved & adored her many friends too. She also loved photography, gardening, camping, travelling, music particularly the “Rolling Stones” & The Foo Fighters. She loved animals of all types but dearly loved her pug dogs, Bambi and Mocha.
Anita also had a wonderful sense of humour, loved to laugh and she had a gorgeous smile that would steal anyone's heart. She liked to tease and play around a lot with people, but always in good fun. She valued close friends & former co-workers, who gave her a tremendous amount of support, even on a daily basis, which also helped her navigate through some of her most difficult days this past year.
Anita, you are forever loved by so many & will terribly missed by all who were blessed by your presence. We are comforted by the knowledge that you are now with your Heavenly Father, with no anguish or suffering of any kind. Lots of Love forever & always....Kevin, Lindsay & Ashley.
Funeral Service for Anita will be held on Friday, September 4th, 10am at Green Acres Funeral Home, 1 Green Acres Lane, Navin, Manitoba (across from TinkerTown).
Due to current restrictions on group sizes, we will be livestreaming the funeral service via Facebook on the Green Acres Funeral Home website.
