He is survived by his loving Mom Etheline (Etty) Schaefer (nee Kirchhofer); His sisters Kathy (Bob) Carter and Susan (Darren) Shaw; His nieces and nephews: Jillian and Justin Carter, Carissa and Braden Shaw. Brian was predeceased by his Father Lawrence (Larry) Schaefer on May 31, 2009.
Brian was born on Mother's Day, May 12, 1963. He attended Angus McKay, John Henderson, River East and Miles Mac schools. At the age of 16, he obtained his first job with Canada Safeway. While working part time, he earned his degree (Bachelor of Science with Statistics Major) at the University of Winnipeg. Brian continued working at Safeway and made it his full time career. He worked in many departments but his favorite was the time he spent in IT. While in retail stores, Brian took great pride in serving his customers and making them happy. Due to illness, he was forced to retire after 36 years of service.
As a child, Brian was always very active. He participated in Cubs at John Black, swimming lessons at the YMCA, bowling at Rossmere Lanes and hockey at Bronx Park. In 1971, Dad purchased our cottage at Tannis lake, Ontario and from that day forward, it became his favorite retreat! He spent countless hours there with family and friends. He loved everything that comes with life at the lake! Brian was also an extensive traveler, visiting so very many places all over the world. His most memorable trip was made with Paul and Juergen in the late 90s. At home, he enjoyed gardening ,cooking, reading, and studying our family ancestry. Let us not forget his passion for golf. He got 2 holes in one. The last years of his life were mostly spent with Mom. Brian still had much to do and never gave up but time ran out and he had to leave us much too soon.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, November 22, 2017 at Green Acres Funeral Home, Highway 1 East at Navin Road, with Pastor Bruce Gelhorn officiating. Interment to follow in Holy Angel Mausoleum at Green Acres Cemetery.
