Denis Querel

Denis Querel, age 94 of Winnipeg passed away peacefully on October 31, 2022 at St. Boniface Hospital.

He is survived by his wife Rita; son George (Gail), daughter Denise (Richard), son Bruce, son Gary (Pauline) and grandchildren Nicole and Rob, Brett and Mel, Gregory and Rekha, Cindy and Max; great grandchildren Gracie, Katie (Sunshine), Jade, and Ethan and sister-in-law Lucille. Denis was predeceased by parents Aristide and Ozile Querel, grandson Bradley, brothers Michael, Gaston (Therese), Gus (Marie) and sister Denise.

Denis loved all his family and grandchildren dearly and was loved by all of them.

Denis was raised in Badger, Manitoba with his mom and dad and three brothers. The Querel family ran a general store and Denis along with his dad and brothers were also in the logging business, starting with horses and then trucks. Later he married Rita and they lived in Woodridge raising their four children. He worked in various jobs from the Winnipeg floodway as a foreman for B.A. Construction, Hudson’s Bay with his brothers in logging, and later left to start his own business with his three boys in Gravel Trucking until he retired.

Denis was an avid wrestling fan all his life; he also enjoyed leisurely picnics in the bush with his wife. Denis and Rita loved spending their retirement years at the lake in Kenora with their family, and with his brother Gaston and Therese. He thoroughly enjoyed holiday gatherings and birthdays with his family, including his great grandchildren, spent time watching sports and regularly met friends at local restaurants to catch up and enjoy coffee together.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Denis' memory may be made to Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba and Cancercare Manitoba.

Thank you for all of the Health Care Workers who became close friends for the past 2 years or so, your care and support was much appreciated.

Denis was loved by all, he was well respected by them and his sense of humor, stories and wisdom, will never be forgotten.
