

1924 - 2017
Emma Yakel, a long time Elmwood resident, passed away peacefully June 7, 2017 at the ae of 92.
Emma was born December 3, 1924 to Volhynian German Russian parents, Philip Kull and Elisabeth Simon. Mom married William Yakel in 1944 and spent 59 year together. They loved spending time at their cabin at Barrier Bay in the Whiteshell and winter trip to warmer destinations.
Mom enjoyed volunteering with Community Chest, the Red Cross and for 15 years at the Lutheran Goodwill Store which contributed to the building of Carriage House North for seniors.
Emma started dressmaking in her home after working at Singers. She sewed dresses for many bridal parties with professionalism, taking great pride in her work.
Mom was a life member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church and was in Ladies Aid and served on many committees. She spent many happy hours making lap quilts for shut-ins.
Emma is survived by three sons; William (Wanda), David (Janice), and Mark (Brenda); five grandchildren; Trevor (Keri), Tyson, Jeffrey (Alison), Breanne (T.J.) Edinger and Amanda (Tyler) Bousquet; four great-grandchildren Deanna, Hayden, Desmond and Abel; Sister Ellen Bancroft and many nieces and nephews.
Mom was predeceased by husband William Yakel; daughter-in-law Diana Yakel; and sister Edith Murphy.
Funeral service will take place Tuesday, June 13th at 11:00am at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 708 McCalman Avenue.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Holy Cross Lutheran Church or Concordia Foundation.
