It is with great sadness the family reports the passing of Frank Chuchmuch, age 88. Frank passed peacefully at Fred Douglas Lodge in Winnipeg where he resided. Frank passed away just over two weeks apart from his soulmate and love of his life, Olesia to whom he had been married for 50 years.
Frank was born in Angusville, Manitoba and moved from “the farm” to Winnipeg in his twenties. Frank had an adventurous life learning and applying the technologies of the day while working for many different companies. For instance, he was a telegraph operator for Canadian National Railway and manned remote switching stations in Manitoba and Ontario. In the early sixties, Frank sold “the newest canister vacuum technology” door-to-door for Electrolux. Later, he worked for the Manitoba Telephone System and helped the company with the rollout of the first commercially viable tone dialing phones.
In the mid-sixties, Frank was fortunate to win a lottery with the big prize of $10,000!! A lot of money in those days. Not being one to simply squander such winnings, he invested in himself by attending business school and by investing into a growing new industry – the television business. Frank started Quad-A Electronics; Television Sales, Repairs, and Rentals which he nurtured and grew with pride for over 20 years. Although he served the entire city of Winnipeg, Frank enjoyed his customers in the “north-end”. He often spoke of the old-word charm of the various cultures that called the “north-end” home. He enjoyed conversing in Ukrainian with new Canadians of all ages and would always have time to help those people who needed a hand in understanding how to access Winnipeg public services. For many, Frank was the “go to guy” in the north-end and he made himself available to help his neighbors get along in their new home. When Frank retired from the TV business, he joined the Manitoba Corps of Commissionaires which is part of Canada's largest private not-for-profit security company. He served with pride as a security officer for the RCMP and for the Canadian Armed Forces. Frank worked until he was 80 years old doing a job that he loved.
In the early seventies, on a blind date, Frank was introduced to a beautiful blond model named Olesia. By date number four (only about two weeks into the relationship), Frank asked Olesia to marry him. She said “yes” and the two were inseparable through life. Wherever one was, the other was not too far away. They truly enjoyed each other, loved each other, and loved their life together. Frank would often say with a smile, how proud he was of “the beautiful blond” on his arm. Olesia was equally proud to call Frank her darling husband. The two enjoyed everything about life, from the smallest routines to the biggest moments. Unfortunately, Olesia passed away on July 26, 2023. This absolutely crushed Frank, and the family knew without a doubt that he would soon follow. The two simply couldn’t be apart from one another – either here in this life or the life to come. The Lord was merciful in bringing these two soulmates back together in such a short time.
Frank was predeceased by his parents Annie and John, brothers Joe, Milton, Paul and Alexander and sisters Olive, Genevieve and Gladys. Frank will be lovingly remembered by his son Michael Chuchmuch, daughter-in law Angela Chuchmuch, and his granddaughters Kathryn, Elizabeth, and Anna Chuchmuch. Frank is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the wonderful, caring people at Fred Douglas Lodge in Winnipeg for the attention and compassion given to Frank over the years and to our family. In lieu of flowers, please send a donation to Fred Douglas Lodge, 1275 Burrows Avenue, Winnipeg, Manitoba R2X 0B8, to help them help other residents maintain their independence and a high quality of life.
A funeral service for Frank will be held Thursday, August 24, 2023, 10:00 AM at Green Acres Funeral Home and Cemetery.
