In her 91st year, Johanna passed away on October 25, 2021, surrounded by family at River Park Gardens Personal Care Home in Winnipeg.
Johanna was born and raised in Friesland, the Netherlands. She married Hendrik Hes in 1950 and in 1954 they immigrated to Canada. They enjoyed 54 years of loving marriage before Hendrik passed away rather suddenly in 2004.
Left to cherish her memory are her children Jan, Jacob (Kelly), Henry (Tamara), Wesley, and Shirley (Mark) Kneale. Johanna was a much-loved Beppe of 12 grandchildren and an Oer Beppe of 13 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
Our Mom, Beppe and Oer Beppe was gentle, loving, caring and hardworking. She dedicated her life to raising her children. She loved singing in the choir, camping in their little Boler trailer, fishing and spending time with family. She especially loved playing all sorts of games with her grandkids and great-grandkids.
She will be lovingly remembered for her delicious hand cake (boterkoek), and cozy knitted mitts and scarfs for which there were always many requests. Her grandkids also fondly remember her ready supply of Dutch peppermints, her Dutch meatball soup, and how she always had hagelslag at the lunch table.
Her family wishes to offer a very special thank you to the dear and loving nursing staff at River Park Gardens. They were always so caring, compassionate and patient.
A private family memorial service will be held at Green Acres Funeral Home.
