Born August 11, 1922 in Winnipeg, Lola attended Daniel McIntyre Collegiate and graduated from Business College as a Medical/Legal Secretary. She was proud to work for Doctor MacCharles at the Manitoba Clinic and as judicial secretary to Judge MacDonnel at the Manitoba Law Courts. Lola left the workforce to raise her five children before returning to work at the Federal Bureau of Pensions Advocates.
Lola married Anthony Dacquisto on August 13, 1952 in Winnipeg. Happily married for 62 years, they shared passions for food, friendship, laughter and travel. Italy, Japan and Brazil were highlights, but Lola also enjoyed her experience living as a military wife in Churchill Manitoba.
Lola was a great cook and welcomed family and friends to her table where they enjoyed feasts of handmade pasta and slow-simmered tomato sauce. Melt in your mouth lasagna of paper thin pasta and tiny hand-rolled meatballs was another specialty. Equally famous was her fried chicken and chocolate cake that left guests in a state of food-induced bliss.
So many memories of our mother revolve around food that we were shocked to learn a few years ago that she never liked cooking. She made no secret though of her love for dining out, bravely trying new dishes and asking for more hot sauce.
Lola was honest, open and caring. A moral compass, confident and wise oracle to a host of friends of all ages. Helping others was part of her DNA that she shared with her siblings and inherited from her parents who helped so many Italian newcomers get established in Winnipeg.
A funeral service will be held at St. Ignatius Church, 255 Stafford Street, Winnipeg at 1:00 PM Friday, November 21, 2014.
