Margaret Kessler

It is with heavy hearts we announce that in the early hours of September 26th, 2022, Marguerite Kessler passed away at the Stonewall Hospital. She spent the day visiting with an endless stream of family members who lined up patiently for a chance to bid her a final farewell.

“Margaret” to those who knew her best, was a daughter, sister, wife, aunt, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, friend, neighbour, mentor, Mrs. Fix It, volunteer, seamstress, fisherwomen, cribbage champion and settler of disputes. She was born on April 4th, 1933 in St. Joseph MB where she lived until age 7 when her family moved to Oak Point in May of 1940. As a teenager, she met Pete Kessler at the Oak Point Sport Day. They married young and recently celebrated 71 years of marriage.

Pete and Margaret spent their early married years working on dairy farms throughout Manitoba. In 1959, they settled near Balmoral and together with their children they built a successful dairy operation of their own. Work was hard but they found time for traveling, fishing and camping. The annual Kessler camping weekend, filled with practical jokes, bonfires, food and fun was an event to look forward to with great anticipation. It often stretched into a week-long event sometimes longer. Margaret was often the star of the show, entertaining the youngsters with fond memories of growing up as part of a large family in rural Manitoba. In 1997, Pete and Margaret retired from farming and moved to Stonewall.

Margaret loved Geography and longed to see the world. She and Pete spent many winters in Harlingen Texas where Margaret excelled at shuffleboard cribbage and crafts. They travelled extensively; visiting Canada from coast to coast, camping across Alaska, cruising the Caribbean and exploring many of the US states. This next journey will take her beyond the physical borders of the world we know and onward to heaven.

She leaves behind Pete, their children; Larry (Judy), Linda (Ken), and Gale (Neil), daughter-in-law Darlene, 8 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother Frank and sisters Agatha, Gladys (Steve), Joyce (Stan). She is predeceased by her son Ron, parents Franz and Katherine, sister Hilda and brother Ben.

Funeral Services will be held for extended family at 2:30 PM on Saturday Oct 1st, 2022, at Green Acres Funeral Home, Hwy #1 East at Navid Road, Winnipeg. Interment to follow Monday morning at 9:30.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Kidney Foundation.

The family extends their gratitude to the nursing staff at the Stonewall hospital and Dr. Hayden Glor for his compassionate care.
