(NEE DHEERE)
Surrounded by her family, Maureen Marie Cook (nee Dheere) passed away peacefully on January 5, 2015 at the age of 57. She was the backbone of her family and the most caring soul to those who loved her. Her life was filled with love and warmth. We shall remember her passion for her beautiful gardens and carefully tended flowers, gorgeous photography, and most important to her , her family. Maureen was the most devoted mother to her children, and her limitless commitment to them made them truly know what it is to be loved. Her devotion to her husband was also unending, and they shared 33 beautiful years together.
Maureen was born June 13, 1957 to loving parents Marcel and Jacqueline (nee Gallant) Dheere in Winnipeg, MB. She grew up in the St. Boniface area with her older sister, and best friend, Marti and her younger brother Doug. Maureen graduated from Louis Riel Collegiate in 1975 and then pursued studies in Regina to become a Dental Nurse. After successfully completing her degree, Maureen traveled throughout Europe, then returned to Winnipeg to work as a Dental Nurse.
In 1980, Maureen met her beloved future husband Doug Cook and they were happily married in 1981. Maureen and Doug enjoyed many years together, spending time with their nieces and nephews, but they wanted a child of their own. And in 1992 they were blessed with their daughter Kate, and were again blessed with their son Noah in 1996. With her family complete, Maureen, Doug, Kate and Noah spent many happy years together, busy with dance rehearsals, hockey practice, late homework reports, as well as any obstacle that came their way.
Although both Maureen and her family would have wished for many more years together, she shared with us all many times how happy she was with her life and that she had no regrets.
She leaves to mourn her husband Doug Cook, her children Kate (Ian) and Noah, as well as her mother Jacqueline Dheere and mother and father in law Violet and Gordon Cook, and siblings Marti, Doug (Jackie) Dheere. As well as sister in law Lois (Wayne) and brother in law Jim. As well as her nieces and nephews; Jordan, Evan (Krissy), Sarah, Adam (Kristen), Ben, Travis, Christine (Justin), and Brad (Kristy). Maureen was predeceased by her father Marcel ‘Ching’ Dheere, and we know that he will have greeted her with loving arms.
We would like to thank Maureen’s oncologist Dr. Dhaliwhal and nurse Deborah at St. Boniface Hospital for their dedication and commitment to her well-being.
We would also like to extend our thanks to the nursing staff of the St. Boniface Hospital palliative care team for their wonderful care and compassion to both Maureen and the family in her final hours.
And finally, a huge thank you to all of our friends and family who have been beyond supportive throughout these difficult times, specifically her close friends, Shelley, Mona, Maureen, and Kathleen.
A memorial service will take place on Thursday, January 15, 2015 at 10:00 am at Green Acres Funeral Home & Cemetery, Hwy #1 East at Navin Road.
