It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Sophie Burak nee Romaniuk, on February 10, 2025 on her 89th birthday.

To mourn her passing are her children daughters, Katherine (David) Drul, Linda Ondusky, sons, Kenny (Candace), Gary, Kevin (Judy); nine grandchildren, Marcia (Stanley), Angela (Kelly), Kimberly (Lucas), Dominick and Daniel (Ondusky), Cassidy and Brayden (Burak), Carissa and Marcus (Burak); five great-grandchildren, Mackenzie, Liam, Olivia, Archer and Lucia. Brothers Bill and Donald, sisters-in-law Sylvia Perecki and Yvonne Romaniuk, numerous nieces and nephews.
Sophie was born in Lorette, Manitoba in 1936. She was the first of four children. Sophie lived and worked on the farm until she married Bohden in 1955. They moved to Winnipeg that year. Our mom worked as a homemaker providing love and care for our family. Mom showed her great talents by cooking many Ukrainian dishes for us to enjoy. Mom was an excellent seamstress and enjoyed sewing her daughter's dresses for special occasions. She was an avid gardener and took pride in planting a large garden on the farm and harvesting the vegetables. Mom was proud of her flower garden in the backyard. Her house was filled with potted plants and she had a knack for getting her orchids to bloom. Mom spent countless hours working on her needlepoint projects and passed them to her children as keepsakes of her work.
Our mom started journaling the last few years of her life documenting her memories. We will cherish her thoughts. What was special to our mom was when the family would just drop by and the many get togethers for family dinners and barbecues. Our parents' home was always referred to as their home address 115, and everyone knew that it was the place for the party. Our mom grew to be a loyal Winnipeg Jets fan and rarely missed a game.
Due to health issues, Mom spent the last 18 months at Holy Family Nursing Home. She made many friends, enjoyed playing bingo, painting and the live performances. We appreciate the excellent care provided by the staff.
Mom, you worked hard all your life, it's time for you to rest and join Dad.
