Al was also a dedicated deliverer of the Courier Journal from 1978 until injuries he sustained from an accident forced him to retire in June of 2024.
Al was an active member of First Church of God (Crossroads Community Church) in New Albany. He sang in the church choir, served on the board, and helped with some church renovations. He organized and coached the church’s softball and basketball teams. Al was also an avid golfer. He coached his son’s Little League team and served as a leader in the Boy Scouts. He also sang in the Southern Indiana Chorus.
Al reluctantly traveled with his wife to Russia, France, England, Austria, Germany, Switzerland, Belgium, and Italy, but walking on the Great Wall of China was the most memorable for him.
